  26.             MIRLYN is a computer-based system incorporating an OPAC  and
  27.             other files.  MIRLYN currently contains bibliographic, hold-
  28.             ings, and circulation records for  most  of  the  University
  29.             Library's  collection.   It also contains commercial journal
  30.             index files (six  Wilson  files  as  one  file,  "PsycInfo",
  31.             "MathSci",  "PAIS", "National Newspaper Index", "A Matter of
  32.             Fact") and local files, all with links to the  OPAC  biblio-
  33.             graphic file.

  35.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _A_c_c_e_s_s

  37.             Telnet to host  "hermes.merit.edu".   This  system  provides
  38.             access to UMNet, the University of Michigan's wide area net-
  39.             work.  Users will receive the  prompt:  "WHICH  HOST?"   and
  40.             should  respond  "MIRLYN".  Terminal or communications pack-
  41.             ages must be set to emulate a VT100.

  43.             _W_h_o _C_a_n _U_s_e _t_h_e _C_a_t_a_l_o_g

  45.             The OPAC is available to all.  Commercial  and  local  files
  46.             are  accessible  in all University of Michigan Libraries and
  47.             to all off-site users who are University  of  Michigan  stu-
  48.             dents,  faculty,  or  staff.  Commercial and local files are
  49.             generally not accessible to non-University of Michigan  off-

  74.             The contents of MIRLYN are growing, both in  terms  of  OPAC
  75.             records  (where efforts are being made to include previously
  76.             uncataloged library collections) and other files, both  com-
  77.             mercial  and  local.   Access to full text files, on another
  78.             Library resource, is now being implemented.
